HISTORY 5th November 2008 - PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

An historic day in global political events took place on the 5th November 2008 with the President - elect Barack Obama, becoming the first black American President of United States. In 1775 President John Adams the second president of the United States had no idea when he introduced the American Declaration of Independence that 233 years later a black American by the name of Barack Obama would be standing in his place. The final draft of the Declaration of Independence was completed by Thomas Jefferson.

President John Adams was a lifelong opponent of slavery and the election of President Barack Obama is clearly an historic fulfilment for so many others since then, such as civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King when he spoke
" I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today." Dr. Martin Luther King's dream came true yesterday.

The historic Seumanutafa - Adams link continues to be a significant factor even today, that we remember to strive to achieve the impossible.
