Seumanutafa Loligi travelled with Simeanamulu to New Zealand in 1963 and it was there that he died December 1963. Seumanutafa Loligi's body was shipped back to Samoa in preparation for his funeral service and final resting place. Seumanutafa Loligi's funeral service was held at the LMS - Apia Congregational Christian Church. On the day of Seumanutafa's funeral the shops in Apia were closed in honour of his passing. Seen in the photo walking behind Seumanutafa Loligi's casket is Samoa's first Prime Minister Mata'afa Fiame Faumuina Mulinu'u II (4th from front in white), beside him on the left is Malietoa Tanumafili II (then sole Head of State after Tupua Tamasese Peter Mea'ole died in April 1963). Directly in front of Mata'afa Fiame Faumuina Mulinu'u II and dressed in black and white are Lima Osasa, Falana'ipupu Avei with Lupematasila Afaue Anae leading the procession.
